Hyundai Tiburon
2008 NEW Equipment Highlights
· Standard XM Satellite Radio with three months of free service
· 220-watt Kenwood AM/FM/XM Satellite Radio/CD/MP3 audio system
Tiburon’s packaging remains unchanged for 2008: the stylish and affordable GS, the high-performance SE, and the refined GT and GT Limited. The SE model features a unique track-tuned sport suspension, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Brake Assist. The sport suspension includes stiffer springs and firmer damper control, providing an agile, responsive driving experience that belies its high-value price point.

At Hyundai, performance driving begins with safety and the 2008 Tiburon includes a wide range of both active and passive safety features.
In terms of passive safety, the Tiburon has strong unibody construction, along with front and rear crumple zones, bodyside reinforcements, and five-mph energy-absorbing bumpers. The hood also includes buckling creases and safety stops.
Inside, you’ll find driver and front passenger advanced frontal airbags, along with front seat-mounted side airbags. The front seatbelts have pretensioners and force limiters, and the rear seats feature LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children), which make affixing child safety seats easier.
All Tiburon models feature standard four-channel ABS with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) to optimize brake performance under various dynamic loading conditions. Larger front 12-inch cross-drilled rotors are standard on the SE.
The Tiburon SE has standard ESC, one of the industry’s most effective life-saving technologies. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) studies show vehicles equipped with ESC experience 56 percent fewer fatalities in single-vehicle crashes. Tiburon SE’s ESC system also includes Brake Assist, which provides maximum ABS-level braking force when a panic stop is detected.

Tiburon’s fun-to-drive natures starts with its capable MacPherson strut front and multi-link independent rear suspension. The front suspension uses fade-resistant gas-filled hydraulic struts and a stabilizer bar to control body roll. The multi-link rear system precisely controls chassis movement via gas-filled hydraulic shocks and a stabilizer bar. Advantages of the multi-link rear suspension include optimized rear suspension geometry for enhanced handling and braking stability.
Precise power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering is tuned for responsive handling. Also standard are 205/55R16 performance tires on the Tiburon GS and wider 215/45R17 performance rubber on the GT, SE and GT Limited.
While all Tiburon models offer a fun and sporty driving experience, the high-performance Tiburon SE is a most willing partner for the true enthusiast. The SE’s track-tuned sport suspension features a 13 percent stiffer front spring rate, 10 percent stiffer rear spring rate and unique strut valving. Tiburon SE delivers a 32 percent increase in roll control over the GS. Superb structural rigidity sets the foundation for precisely-tuned handling performance in all Tiburons.

In keeping with its mission to be the most exciting, affordable sports coupe on the road, the Tiburon boasts a cockpit designed to be an integral part of the driving experience. It begins with easy entry and exit through wide door openings to front seats with large side bolsters, which offer excellent lateral support for enthusiastic driving.
High-quality seating surfaces range from full black fabric on the Tiburon GS, to black cloth inserts with black leather bolsters on the GT, to black cloth inserts with red leather bolsters on the SE. The Tiburon GT Limited is available with full red leather seating surfaces for an even more distinctive look.
All cockpit features are ergonomically designed for ease of operation, from the driver’s controls to the HVAC and audio system layout in the center stack, the latter highlighted with a gunmetal trim finish. An ambient temperature display, cupholder, and center console storage complete the interior amenities.
Analog gauges include a large speedometer and tachometer positioned so the driver can immediately access critical driving information. The instrument cluster features Hyundai’s signature blue gauge illumination. The three-spoke steering wheel on the Tiburon GS has a high-quality urethane covering; the Tiburon GT, GT Limited and SE steering wheel is leather-wrapped.

The 2008 Tiburon’s power trip starts with Hyundai’s advanced DOHC 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine rated at 138 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 136 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,500 rpm. Standard equipment on the Tiburon GS, this engine technology includes four valves per cylinder with Continuously Variable Valve Timing (CVVT), which improves both horsepower at high rpm and torque at low rpm, while also reducing NOx emissions.
Matching transmissions include a fun-to-shift five-speed manual and an available four-speed automatic with Hyundai’s SHIFTRONIC® control system – a distinct advantage in the Tiburon’s class. Both engines offers crisp acceleration coupled with excellent fuel economy. Fuel economy for 2008 is 20 mpg city/28 mpg highway with manual transmission – 20 mpg city/27 mpg highway with the automatic.
Standard on the 2008 Tiburon GT, SE and GT Limited is a powerful all-aluminum 2.7-liter V6. This DOHC, 24-valve engine is rated at 172 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 181 lbs.-ft. of torque at a low 3,800 rpm. The generous torque at low engine speeds particularly benefits the driver in such daily driving challenges as initial acceleration, merging with freeway traffic, high-speed passing and hill climbing.
A standard five-speed manual transmission takes full advantage of the V6’s additional power, while a six-speed ZF manual underpins the Tiburon SE. A four-speed automatic with SHIFTRONIC is available on the GT and GT Limited. Fuel economy estimates for 2008 are 17 mpg city/24 mpg highway for both the Tiburon GT and GT Limited, regardless of transmission. The new SE yields 16 mpg city/24 mpg highway.

Rally racing is a sport that challenges some of the world’s best cars and drivers and attracts millions of fans every year. Whether on asphalt mountain passes or rough forest tracks, on ice and snow or desert sand, the rally-tuned award-winning Hyundai Tiburon has been making a name for itself on the rally racing circuit for over a decade.

The new GLS Premium Package for 2008 adds exterior and interior trim enhancements, along with thoughtful features, including fully automatic front-dual automatic climate controls, Infinity AM/FM/CD/MP3 audio and a eight-inch DVD rear seat entertainment system.
For 2008, the Entourage will continue to feature the popular standard equipment offered when the vehicle was introduced last year, like the Hyundai Hideaway™ third-row seat, a simple-to-use 60/40 split fold-into-the floor seat that offers flexibility for up to seven passengers. Entourage’s flip and fold second-row seats add to the vehicle’s space and versatility, providing easy access to its third-row seating.
At 202 inches long and 78.1 inches wide, the Entourage is truly full-size. In fact, these larger dimensions and efficient packaging deliver an interior volume of 172 cubic feet – more than Honda Odyssey.

The Entourage exemplifies Hyundai’s leadership in standardizing the industry’s most effective safety technologies. Entourage features six standard airbags, including side air curtains for all three rows of seats. The combination of side and curtain airbags, which help protect the head and body during side impacts, can reduce fatalities by more than 45 percent, according to the IIHS.
In addition, all Entourage trim levels come standard with ESC, one of the industry’s most effective life-saving technologies. ESC compares the driver’s intended course with the vehicle’s actual path, then brakes individual front or rear wheels and/or reduces engine power as needed in certain driving circumstances to help correct understeer or oversteer. IIHS studies show vehicles equipped with ESC experience 56 percent fewer fatalities in single-vehicle crashes. The Entourage, Veracruz, Santa Fe, Tucson, Sonata and Azera all have lifesaving ESC as standard equipment. In fact, 73 percent of all Hyundai vehicles in 2007 were equipped with standard ESC. Hyundai boasts a higher percentage of standard ESC installation than Chevrolet, Ford, Toyota or Honda.
Ventilated front (11.7-in.) and solid rear (11.9-in.) brake rotors are standard and are coupled with a four-channel Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) that includes Brake Assist, a technology that provides maximum braking force when a panic stop is detected. The system also utilizes Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) to which varies braking force at each wheel based on road conditions, speed and axle loads to enhance the capabilities of ABS.
All seating positions feature three-point seatbelts and adjustable head restraints. Convenient Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) points allow child seats to be secured in the second- and third-row seats. The active head restraints on the front row combined with the shingle type adjustable head restraints for all other occupants support the neck and reduce whiplash related injuries common during a rear impact. Together, these advanced features have earned Hyundai an unsurpassed rear impact performance rating of “Good” (the highest rating) along with a TOP SAFETY PICK distinction from the IIHS.

Entourage’s advanced all-aluminum 3.8-liter DOHC 24-valve standard V6 engine produces 250 horsepower and 253 lb.-ft. of torque, which means Entourage has more standard horsepower and torque than Honda Odyssey and Chrysler Town and Country. The V6 engine features timing chains with no scheduled maintenance, instead of the belts typically found on many V6 engines that need replacement at set intervals. Despite its impressive output, the Entourage is environmentally friendly with its Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV) certification.
Complementing the powerful V6 is an equally advanced five-speed automatic transmission. Offering smooth shifts and optimized ratios, the Entourage’s transmission also includes an overdrive lock-up torque converter for quiet, efficient highway cruising. A SHIFTRONIC feature allows drivers to change gear manually, on steep grade for example by moving the gear selector into a separate gate. Pushing the selector forward or pulling it rearward will shift the transmission up or down sequentially, adding to driver control. The shift lever is mounted below the ventilator system controls for easier reach and a clear LCD readout on the instrument panel alerts the driver as to the gear in use.

A driver-selectable AWD lock provides a fixed 50/50 torque split between front and rear wheels, which can improve performance in slippery or off-road conditions.

The 2009 Santa Fe underscores Hyundai’s leadership in standardizing the industry’s most effective safety technologies. All Santa Fe trim levels come standard with Electronic Stability Control (ESC), one of the industry’s most effective life-saving technologies. ESC compares the driver’s intended course with the vehicle’s actual response. It then brakes individual front or rear wheels and/or reduces engine power as needed in certain driving circumstances to help correct understeer or oversteer. NHTSA studies show SUVs equipped with ESC experience 63 percent fewer fatalities in single-vehicle crashes. Santa Fe, Veracruz, Tucson, Sonata, Azera, Genesis and Entourage are all equipped with standard ESC. More than 70 percent of Hyundai vehicles offered in 2008 came equipped with standard ESC – a commitment to this sophisticated and effective automotive safety technology that is unmatched by any other non-luxury automotive brand.
Front and rear disc brakes are standard and are coupled with a four-channel Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) that includes Brake Assist, a technology providing maximum braking force when a panic stop is detected. The system also uses Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), which automatically equalizes the braking force to the front and rear axles, based on the vehicle loading conditions.
The Santa Fe also features six standard airbags, including side air curtains for all three rows of available seating. The combination of side and curtain airbags, which help protect the head and body during side impacts, can reduce fatalities by more than 52 percent, according to the IIHS. Side curtain air protection is optional on some compact and mid-size SUVs.

All seating positions feature three-point seatbelts and adjustable head restraints. Front-seat active head restraints help prevent whiplash by automatically reducing the space between a front occupant’s head and the head restraint during a rear collision. The shingle-style rear seat head restraints also improve overall visibility, while providing easier rear seat fold-down capabilities.
Santa Fe also features a standard Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), which alerts drivers if one or more tires are under inflated. An illuminated readout on the dash lets drivers know a tire needs inflation so corrective action can be taken.

With dramatic styling that is assertive, yet graceful, the Santa Fe exterior showcases the evolving face of the Hyundai brand. Its wide track provides a strong stance, improved handling and increased interior room.
The Santa Fe has an assertive front grille, rugged bumper design, confident sculptured lines and finely detailed headlights. For a more aggressive appearance, Santa Fe SE and Limited models come with 18-inch alloy wheels. Sleek styling makes the Santa Fe aerodynamic, providing a drag coefficient of 0.37. Standard roof rack side rails help define its clean side profile, while adding SUV functionality. Cross bars are now standard on SE and Limited models.
New colors for 2009 include Medium Sliver Blue, Willow Gray, New Pearl White and New Silver (names are not final).

With its optional third row seat, the Santa Fe offers seven-passenger seating. With 40 percent of all crossover and SUV customers demanding a third-row seat, this feature significantly broadens Santa Fe’s appeal. The third row seat is split 50/50 and can be folded flat like the 60/40-split second-row seat. Total cargo volume is a generous 78.2 cubic feet, with plenty of storage for items of different sizes.
By incorporating a stiff unibody architecture and a well-engineered triple-sealed door/body interface, Hyundai engineers have significantly reduced cabin noise. In fact, the Santa Fe is 1.7 dB quieter than the Volvo XC90 luxury crossover at highway speeds.
Air conditioning is standard, while available dual-zone climate controls for the driver and front seat passenger bring a touch of luxury to the Santa Fe. Second and third row passengers will enjoy a new level of comfort, thanks to B-pillar-mounted adjustable vents, dual rear heating ducts and rear fan controls.
Demonstrating Hyundai’s attention to detail, blue backlighting for interior gauges, switches and buttons highlights the vehicle’s modern, integrated interior design. Front cupholders are also ringed with blue light for night time drives. Soft-touch, high-quality materials, low-gloss surfaces and zero-tolerance fits are used throughout the interior, as are color-keyed seat belt buckles and cupholder inserts to add more design harmony to the inside cabin.

The Santa Fe rides on a purpose-built unibody crossover platform with a 106.3-inch wheelbase. This chassis delivers a wonderful ride, handling and balance that discerning crossover buyers are looking for, along with interior amenities just right for most families. This stiff body structure provides the basis for both a more refined ride and more agile handling. Thanks to the suspension geometry and wider track width that enables greater turn angles, Santa Fe’s turning circle is 35.8 – an advantage Santa Fe drivers will appreciate in their daily driving and parking.

The 2009 Santa Fe is assembled at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama (HMMA) in Montgomery, Ala. HMMA also produces the 2009 Hyundai Sonata (both vehicles share the same assembly line.) This plant has also achieved Certification to the International Automotive Task Force’s (IATF) most rigid quality management standard, ISO/TS 16949, a set of Quality Management System requirements specific to the automotive industry and the highest automotive operating standard in the world. INTELLIGENT INTERIOR
Inside, passengers are coddled in a rich, sophisticated environment inspired by boutique hotels. The result is an interior that could be found in the finest luxury sedans, thanks to intelligent ergonomic engineering, intuitive design, and superior craftsmanship by Hyundai designers and engineers. Hyundai has crafted a winner, combining space with elegance and including conveniences that exceed expectations.
Every major component of Veracruz has been designed to reduce cabin noise below that of the whisper-quiet Lexus RX350. To isolate outside noise, Hyundai applies acoustic damping sheets to the doors and unibody, a steel plate beneath the engine and four layers of carpet padding. Engine noise is reduced through an electronically controlled engine mount, a multi-curvature dash, custom hood insulation and a pillow tripod joint, which lessens vibrations from the driveshaft at idle.
Seating for seven adults is made possible because of Hyundai’s standard Hideaway™ third-row seat. Access to the third row is simple with the flip of a lever to slide the second row forward. Additionally, a well-thought out design means cargo space is abundant in the Veracruz. Although 9.7 inches shorter than the Mercedes Benz GL, the Veracruz still has more cargo volume.
Available dual-zone climate controls for driver and front-seat passenger further enhance the Veracruz’s luxury credentials. Second- and third-row passengers enjoy a new level of comfort, due to B-pillar-mounted adjustable vents, rear HVAC controls and roof-mounted vents.
Brushed metal accents and blue backlighting for all interior gauges, switches and buttons highlight the modern, integrated interior design. Even the front cupholders are accented with blue light to aid nighttime driving, while soft blue lighting in the overhead console provides subdued mood lighting. Hyundai’s focused attention to detail can be seen throughout the interior – console bins and the glovebox are lined with soft flocking material. Powerpoint caps, seatbelt buckles and cupholder inserts are color-keyed for design harmony. Soft-touch, high-quality materials, low-gloss surfaces and zero-tolerance fits are used throughout the interior.

INNER POWER
On the street, Veracruz offers capable, fuel-efficient performance courtesy of a modern 3.8-liter DOHC V6 engine. It delivers 260 horsepower and 257 lb-ft. of torque. To maximize torque across the rev range, the engine utilizes Continuously Variable Valve Timing (CVVT) on the intake valves and a Variable Intake System which helps cylinders breathe efficiently at both low and high rpm. The engine has an aluminum block and cylinder heads for light weight and thermal efficiency, and features a steel timing chain with no scheduled maintenance.
To reduce vibration, the engine rides on newly developed semi-active engine mounting, which consists of three passive mounts integrated with a controllable element, rpm sensor and solenoid valve. The active mount is vacuum-activated to offset engine vibrations.

AVAILABLE ELECTRONIC ALL WHEEL DRIVE
Hyundai offers an Intelligent Torque Controlled Coupling All Wheel Drive (AWD) system to propel Veracruz through the elements. Using wheel speed sensors to monitor the road and the driver, this electronic system can sense when and where more torque is required and route it there automatically. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels through a multi-plate clutch without any extra effort from the driver. An AWD lock mode can be engaged with the touch of a button, providing a 50:50 torque ratio when needed at low speeds.

Hyundai Elantra

The award-winning Elantra enters 2010 an improved weapon against gas prices, with the all-new Blue model achieving an estimated highway fuel economy rating of 35 miles per gallon. Smart engineering enhancements to the rest of the 2010 Hyundai Elantra lineup improve fuel efficiency by up to four percent.
2010 Hyundai Elantra: Has a five-star frontal and four-star side crash rating in the compact passenger car segment These new fuel economy numbers give Elantra an advantage in price-per-MPG ratio, making it an even stronger value for 2010.

To make the Elantra “Blue,” engineers added a “smart” alternator management system, lower friction engine components, revised transmission gear ratios, engine calibration changes and a shift indicator to last year’s Elantra GLS manual. This new high mileage Elantra will be indentified with unique “Blue” badging. From the Blue edition, the rest of the Elantra line receives its lower friction engine components, “smart” alternator management system and an improved lock-up torque converter to maximize fuel economy at highway speeds.
Elantra also returns this year with the convenience of Hyundai’s iPod®/USB auxiliary inputs, a new “waterfall” grille, rear chrome trim, chrome interior accents and a monotone black interior color choice for SE models.
Music lovers will welcome the 2010 Elantra’s inclusion of XM Satellite Radio and standard auxiliary input jacks (3.5 mm mini-jack and USB input) to accommodate and charge audio devices such as iPods. When an iPod or flash drive is connected through the USB port, not only does it play music through the vehicle’s six-speaker audio system, but it also charges the iPod. The new audio display included with this system also allows both driver and passengers to easily view four lines of song/artist/title information and control the music from the audio head unit rather than from the iPod itself.

EQUIPMENT FOR 2010
Still standard on the Elantra SE, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) is the industry’s most significant new safety technology since the seatbelt. ESC compares the driver’s intended course with the vehicle’s actual response, then brakes individual front or rear wheels and/or reduces engine power as needed in certain driving circumstances to help correct understeer or oversteer. According to Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) research, if all vehicles were equipped with ESC, as many as 10,000 of the 34,000 fatal passenger vehicle crashes that occur each year could be prevented.
In addition, the Elantra has also received a five-star frontal and four-star side crash rating in the compact passenger car segment from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and earned a “Good” rating in the IIHS’s frontal offset test, the Institute’s highest rating. Finally, the addition of a standard Tire Pressure Monitoring System, which alerts drivers if tires are under inflated through an illuminated readout on the dash, rounds out Elantra’s safety features to make it one of the smartest purchases in the compact class.
STANDARD SAFETY FEATURES
All Elantras have six standard airbags, including two advanced front airbags, two front seat-mounted side-impact airbags, and two side-curtain airbags protecting front- and rear-seat outboard passengers. The combination of side and curtain airbags, which help protect the head and body during side impacts, can reduce fatalities by more than 45 percent according to IIHS. In addition the Elantra SE comes with standard ESC, Traction Control and Brake Assist.
Accident avoidance technologies start with Elantra’s chassis, which features a fully independent suspension, front and rear stabilizer bars and motor-driven rack-and-pinion steering. Elantra’s safety is taken even further with the addition of ESC. The Elantra’s standard power braking system has front and rear discs with a four-sensor, four-channel Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) that includes Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD). ABS helps the driver maintain vehicle steering control during braking in slippery conditions and in emergency maneuvers. EBD is integrated into the ABS, automatically adjusting the front-to-rear braking force based on the vehicle’s loading conditions. Brake Assist is standard on the Elantra SE along with ESC. Brake Assist detects panic braking situations (by sensing brake pedal application speed) and increases braking force to shorten overall stopping distances and help avoid accidents. Four-wheel disc brakes are a key leadership feature for the segment, as traditional rear drum brakes are still found on the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla and Chevrolet Cobalt.
Elantra’s standard front-seat active head restraints help prevent whiplash by automatically reducing the space between a front occupant’s head and the head restraint during certain rear collisions and are highly recommended by safety organizations such as the IIHS.
Hyundai Elantra
All seating positions feature three-point seatbelts and adjustable head restraints. The shingle-style, rear-seat head restraints are designed to improve visibility when there are no rear-seat passengers, while protecting these passengers when in the vehicle. There is also an energy absorbing steering column, front seatbelt pretensioners and adjustable-height shoulder anchors. A Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) system in the rear seat area provides secure attachment for child seats.
In low-speed impacts, the Elantra’s five-mph front and rear bumpers help minimize damage. In higher energy collisions, its steel unibody structure is engineered to dissipate crash energy as its crumple zones deform, while bodyside reinforcements help maintain the integrity of the passenger compartment. Hood buckling creases and safety stops help control the deformation of the hood in a frontal collision.
EXPRESSIVE AND CONFIDENT DESIGN
Elantra’s front appearance and rising beltline create a premium statement. For added distinction and assertiveness, chrome headlight bezels, a new waterfall chrome grille and chrome rear trim are standard. The Elantra profile features sculpted surfaces, an expressive bodyside character line that is shared with other Hyundai models and neatly integrated bodycolor door handles and mirrors. The rear styling complements the front design with tail lights that echo the theme of the headlights and nicely complete the bodyside character line.
Elantra has a low coefficient of drag to improve fuel efficiency at highway speeds and reduce interior noise. Elantra’s coefficient of drag is 0.32, which is significantly “more slippery” than the 2008 Nissan Sentra’s 0.35.[1]

A “CLASS ABOVE” INTERIOR – MORE ROOM THAN CIVIC, COROLLA AND TL
Elantra is truly a “class above” Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla when it comes to interior room. Elantra is so roomy the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) classifies it as a mid-size car, not a compact car like Civic and Corolla. Elantra’s total interior volume of 112.1 cubic feet easily beats the 2010 Civic sedan (102.9 cu. ft.), 2010 Nissan Sentra (110.8 cu. ft.) and 2010 Corolla (104.3 cu. ft.), and, surprisingly, even surpasses the interior volume of the near-luxury Acura TL (110.4 cu. ft.). Elantra trunk volume at 14.2 cubic feet also beats Civic and Corolla.
Thoughtful design touches bring harmony and substance to Elantra’s interior. The dashboard slopes downward to give a feeling of more space and to promote greater visibility, while offering a modern look. The contrasting beige or gray two-tone color scheme and now monotone black color scheme, combined with new chrome finishes, complement the sophisticated and upscale Elantra exterior styling. Other optional interior amenities include heated seats as well as steering-wheel-mounted cruise and audio controls; the steering column also tilts for improved control. Cool blue back lighting adds a modern, easy-to-read ambience at night.

The center console features dual level storage compartments and a comfortable armrest. An overhead sunglass holder has built-in map lights, while pockets are integrated into the front door panels, and seatback storage pockets provide additional room for small items. Storage can also be found in the dash, center stack and console. A convenient handbag strap holder, dual front cupholders and rear center armrest with cupholders round out the interior appointments and provide everyday utility.
The Elantra’s comfortable and versatile seating includes a multi-adjustable driver’s seat, including variable height settings, adjustable head restraints and a standard 60/40 split fold-down rear seatback to accommodate larger cargo.
Conveniences like a standard cabin air filter, rear window defroster, tilt steering wheel, tinted glass, two-speed variable intermittent windshield wipers with mist function, power heated mirrors, power windows and door locks, and remote keyless entry with alarm and trunk release add to Elantra’s remarkable value position. XM Satellite Radio is a standard feature on all Elantra audio systems.
Option packages enhance this value. The Elantra Blue Comfort Package offers a 172-watt AM/FM/XM/CD/MP3 audio system with six speakers and iPod/USB auxiliary inputs. Also included is air conditioning and cruise control.

SUPER CLEAN ENGINE
Thanks to advanced clean engine technology, most Elantras sold in California, Oregon and several Northeast states are certified as Partial Zero Emission Vehicles (PZEV) by the EPA. The PZEV Elantra is as clean as many hybrid electric vehicles and helps Hyundai meet its environmental commitments. Outside of these “green” states, the Elantra is available in Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV) configurations.
Hyundai’s advanced 2.0-liter, in-line four-cylinder engine powers the Elantra. This sophisticated 16-valve powerplant employs Dual Over Head Camshafts (DOHC) and Continuously Variable Valve Timing (CVVT) for a very broad power spread, coupled with high fuel efficiency and low emissions.
The ULEV variation is rated at 138 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 136 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,600 rpm. PZEV engines are available only with a four-speed automatic transmission, and are rated at 132 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 133 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,600 rpm. The Elantra Blue’s estimated mileage is 26 mpg city, and 35 mpg highway. With the four-speed automatic transmission found in the Elantra GLS and SE, the estimated rating is 26 mpg city and 34 mpg highway.

SUSPENSION AND STEERING
Elantra delivers a comfortable ride and responsive handling, thanks to a front MacPherson strut suspension with coil springs and gas shock absorbers, and a multi-link independent suspension with twin-tube gas shock absorbers in the rear. A 23.0 mm diameter front stabilizer bar and 17.0 mm rear stabilizer bar help reduce body roll when cornering. The SE-tuned suspension features 18 percent stiffer front spring rate, 24 percent stiffer rear spring rate and unique shock valving. The SE suspension also has a 24.0 mm diameter front stabilizer bar and 20.0 mm rear stabilizer bar for even better cornering. To enhance stopping power, the front and rear brakes are generously sized at 10.8 inches (275 mm) for the front and 10.3 inches (262 mm) for the rear.
Stiffer body construction allows Hyundai chassis engineers to tune the suspension components for precise steering and handling together with a well-controlled, yet comfortable ride. Additionally, a rigid body structure and the vehicle’s optimized door sealing strategy contribute to reduce road noise (two decibels below a comparably equipped Honda Civic -- based on internal testing).
Advanced, electric motor-driven, engine-speed-sensing rack-and-pinion power steering offers many benefits, including lighter weight and reduced engine drag for higher fuel economy, while delivering a more precise steering feel. The Elantra steering system also offers excellent parking and turning maneuverability. At 33.9 feet, Elantra’s turning diameter is better than Civic’s 34.8 feet, Corolla’s 36.3 feet, and Mazda3 sedan’s 34.2 feet. The SE’s steering is tuned for even quicker response and feel.
